Bozeman Elks Lodge #463

2020 Veteran of the Year

For Exemplifying Honor, Dignity, and Integrity in His Personal Life, for the Promotion of the Well-Being and Rights of Our Veterans, and for his Service to Our Country.

Joe Schumacher serves as the Director of Veteran Services at Montana State University. Each year the Veteran Support Center works with over 600 veteran students to help them achieve their academic goals. Veteran Support Center is available to all veterans of the U.S. military, eligible dependents and members of the Selected Reserve who receive Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) education benefits.

Schumacher served in the Army, including deployment as a tank gunner in Iraq, battling in Diwaniyah.

While earning a degree in Political Science, Schumacher worked for MSU’s Voice Center. He spoke to hundreds of students about preventing sexual assault and domestic abuse.
