WHAT HEROES DO...

Our way of recognizing the heroes among us for their courage, personal qualities, and outstanding achievements.

Day after day, these everyday heroes give their time, voice, and resources to create a better future for all.

Sometimes, heroes are born in a single moment.

Sometimes, a person becomes a hero thanks to months or years of actions and services.

Doug Smith, Wolf Biologist

'Honest, hardworking, humble': Yellowstone National Park's lead wolf biologist retires after 28 years...

Doug Smith was hired to reintroduce gray wolves to Yellowstone National Park in the early 1990s. In the years that followed, his team radio collared 41 wolves, acclimated them to the environment, then released them onto the vast landscape of the world’s first national park.

“Doug’s leadership and expertise in the decades following the reintroduction have helped ensure this keystone species continues to thrive across the Yellowstone landscape."

-Cam Sholly, Superintendent, Yellowstone National Park
